CBC, CBG, and CBN Supplements

Spurred on by passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, the Cannabidiol (CBD) market has quickly become one of the most lucrative in the country, with a valuation of $2.8 billion in 2020

CBD’s rise in popularity also means that the market has quickly become saturated. Consumers are overwhelmed with the amount of choices available to them — and studies have shown that this fatigue actually makes consumers less likely to buy anything at all.

However, CBD isn’t the only cannabinoid rapidly gaining popularity. As research continues to emerge, new “minor” cannabinoids such as Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabinol (CBN) and Cannabichromene (CBC) products are becoming more popular with consumers. In light of these trends, supplement brands looking to grow their product lines should look to expand their cannabinoid product offerings with CBC oil, CBG oil, and CBN oil products.

If you currently offer or are thinking about offering a CBD private label or CBD oil white label and are looking to get ahead of the curve, here’s why you should consider adding CBC, CBG, and CBN products to your line of supplements.

Cannabinoids At a Glance

THC and CBD are two of the most well-known cannabinoids, but it may surprise you to learn that there are over 100 different kinds of cannabinoids out there. And while the research on emerging cannabinoids is still under way, what we do know so far is that many of these compounds have their own unique properties and therapeutic benefits.

Part of what makes cannabinoids so therapeutic is that they can interact with the ECS, or endocannabinoid system. This system is responsible for maintaining homeostasis, or balance within the body. It regulates a whole host of functions including metabolism, mood, pain and memory.

The human body produces its own cannabinoids called endogenous cannabinoids. However, sometimes this system can be set off-balance for a number of reasons. Some leading theories actually speculate that deficiencies in the ECS system are linked to onset of disease states such as migraines, Fibromyalgia, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

When consumed, cannabinoids produced by cannabis plants can interact with our ECS in a way similar to our own naturally produced cannabinoids, producing therapeutic effects.

Exploring The Therapeutic Benefits of CBC, CBG, and CBN

CBD, particularly in oil form, has gained popularity as a potent anti-inflammatory compound that may aid with conditions such as epilepsy and schizophrenia. And now the next thing to follow suit are the ‘minor’ cannabinoids, CBG, CBC and CBN: According to a 2022 report the minor cannabinoid market is expected to reach USD 26.2 billion by 2028.

CBG Oil Benefits, Products, and Applications

Cannabigerol (CBG) is known as “the mother cannabinoid.” It’s a precursor cannabinoid from which all others are created, a fact which imbues this compound with its own distinct properties. CBG’s effects are non-psychoactive, a factor that contributes to its increase in popularity. Kent Vrana, an eminent pharmacologist at Penn State College of Medicine and expert in cannabinoids, told Observer in 2020, “There is growing interest in the commercial use of this unregulated phytocannabinoid.”

CBG currently shows great promise as a neuroprotectant and for its ability to promote gut health. It’s currently being evaluated for treating a number of conditions including Huntington’s Disease, cancer, MRSA, IBS, bladder spasms and Autism Spectrum disorders. CBG-related content began to hit the web around 2020, leading to a sharp increase in consumer demand. Despite the recent uptake in popularity, CBG oil and flower still remains relatively difficult to access and can typically only be ordered online.

CBN Oil Benefits, Products and Applications

Cannabinerol, or CBN, is formed when THC degrades or is heated up. A cannabinoid colloquially touted for its ability to assist with sleep and insomnia, CBN offers an effect often described as sedating, calming, or deeply relaxing. As such it’s typically found as CBN oil or supplements mixed with other pro-sleep agents such as Linalool and Melatonin. Emerging research also suggests that CBN may exert therapeutic effects for patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

New information about CBN’s potential benefits has led to a sharp increase in consumer demand, prompting headlines like, “The cannabinoid CBN might be cannabis industry’s surprise hit.” In fact, this article show CBN products have taken a larger share of the edibles market in every state from 2020 to 2021, suggesting it will be “the next CBD,” with sales of products containing CBN — typically edibles — totalling more than $65 million in the past year for adult-use retailers across California, Colorado, Nevada and Oregon.

CBC Oil Benefits, Products and Applications

While more research is needed, studies suggest that Cannabichromene (CBC), a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, can offer powerful anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

Most cannabinoids work with CB1 or CB2 receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) in order to stimulate production of our own endocannabinoids. In addition to this function, CBC is known for interacting with receptors that are responsible for inflammation with analgesic (painkilling) results.

Additionally, research shows CBC may support the body’s ability to regenerate nerve cells known as neural stem progenitor cells (NSPCs), which are essential for the repair of damaged nerve cells and healthy brain function. CBC may also alleviate skin inflammation associated with such conditions as acne.

The Future of Minor Cannabinoids

The recent rise in interest across minor cannabinoid products suggests that CBD isn’t the only cannabinoid poised to explode in popularity. As more research about minor cannabinoids continues to emerge, consumer interest will only continue to grow, compelling manufacturers to create new products to meet demand.

And with so many consumers relying on cannabis products for their health-promoting purposes, it’s more important than ever to offer cannabinoid products that are high-quality, lab-tested, and consistent in their formulation.
